Alexandria Centre of Interpretation

The center offers the opportunity to utilize Kom El-Dikka, an ancient Roman site in Alexandria. A narrative about the once-legendary city is providing city dwellers and enthusiasts with an alternative perspective for the interpretation of Alexandria’s tangible and intangible characteristics by emphasizing its historical location, and ongoing and future archaeological activities.
Three various scales of intervention; urban, architectural, and exhibition—were integrated into the project’s design. As a response to the built environment, the urban and architectural interventions suggest urban rehabilitation of the nearby public square by defining public space with soft edges on the ground floor that promotes social interaction. The narration is inverted to tell the city’s history via the many periods, highlighting historical, political, and social events which lead to the Roman Site at the end of the journey.
