Urban Regeneration of the historic district
This study suggests an urban regeneration plan for the historic district of Bahary using fishing as a catalyst for the regeneration. As a first step, this multi-layered study investigates the district’s historical development and traces its assets, values, and potential to the present. Next, explore the current state of the area, fishing as an active industry, and as a cultural heritage using a multi-dimensional study assessment.
Finally, the district’s multiple significant tangible and intangible characteristics concluded from the previous phases are taken into consideration in the last section of the research to develop an urban regeneration concept using an incremental urbanism approach with a number of action areas. This concept should be developed with a local community and stakeholder participation approach as well as a public-private partnership.
